Chandlers

We offer a wide range of items and services to the boating fraternity, e.g. safety equipment, paint, fixtures and fittings, ornaments, presents, navigation aids etc.. Please peruse our catalogue at your leisure, and be assured of a fast and value for money service etc. Most UK orders will take about 3 working days and are delivered by Parcel Force. Items can also be collected from us by prior arangement saving you the cost of delivery.

Marine Engineering:

Here at Old Canal Smithy we realise that a lot of boat owners are take a natural pride in keeping their craft in concourse condition, and with our long association with the boating fraternity we have the skills and equipment to maintain, rebuild or even replace vintage/classic and cherished marine engines, gearboxes and peripherals.

For those that take a more "utilitarian" approach we produce a range of marine equipment based on car or commercial engines. These can be new units, engines rebuilt from used units.

All our units comply with BW Certificates of Compliance where applicable.

Fire Protection Services

Originally set up in 1988 by Colin Brooks after some 30 years experience, gained in many parts of the world ranging from modest extensions and alterations in Shops and Shopping Malls, to Full Design from Greenfield-site through to commissioning. This design unit was established to assist mainstream fire protection contractors through the various stages of Tender, Design and Installation of any type of fire protection equipment, Sprinklers, Water-Spray, Foam Systems etc.

Offering services from pre-tender advice, client adjudication, design, procurement through to commissioning attendance, we offer a service which ensures that our designs are fully compliant with fire codes, both national and international, and our Fire-Load/Hydraulic calculations acceptable to all relevant authorities.

Engineering Design:

Where experienced AutoCAD computer draughtsman are employed to prepare design drawings of fine detail and accuracy.The design team has more than 30 years of experience in the preparation and carrying through these schemes.

Fabrication Department:

A fully equipped workshop capable of progressing designs (our or third parties) through to practical completion, from single items to multiple batch quantities. Examples would include, Spiral Staircases, Enclosures for Gas storage on boats, Bracketry, Marine Instrument Panels, Engine Controls, Repairs etc. although our years of experience means our scope is unrestricted.

We are situated in an old woollen mill on the tranquil banks of the Rochdale Canal between the Pennine towns of Todmorden and Hebden Bridge.
